About Our Chapter

History of the Adams-Onís Treaty Chapter, NSDAR

The Adams-Onís Treaty Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in Winter Garden, Florida on July 11, 2020, the birthday of President John Quincy Adams, with 23 organizing members. In July 2023, we welcomed in our 50th member! Our chapter is named for the treaty negotiated by John Quincy Adams in 1819 in which Spain ceded East and West Florida to the United States.  Each year in February, in honor of Adams-Onís Treaty Day, our chapter participates in a service project or fun social activity!

We have members from all walks of life: working women, retired women, college students, young moms, grandmothers, and everything in between. We are a friendly and welcoming bunch who enjoy having fun and doing good for our community.

Our chapter currently meets from September-May in the Winter Garden area. During and between meetings, we participate in numerous service projects and social outings across Orange County. Our chapter has numerous active committees focused on serving active-duty military families, veterans, local schools, literacy projects, American Heritage crafts, and more. We also have a very active book club. We hope you will join us for a meeting and see what DAR membership is all about!
